Circle of Life: A Songfic From the day we arrive on the planet March 1980 - Mrs. Weasley is lying on the hospital bed, exhausted, cradling the newly-born Ron in her arms. A beaming doctor goes out of the room to inform the Weasleys about the birth, and a mighty cheer goes up from the delivery room. And blinking, step into the sun April 1981 - Nine-month-old Harry is taking his first unsteady steps, grinning in delight. James says worriedly, 'Now that he can walk, he could compete with me for the title of Supreme Mischief-Maker of the Universe!' Offhandedly, Lily replies, 'Oh, he's already beaten you,' and James gasps in horror. There's more to see than can ever be seen October 1982 - the toddler Hermione is peering through a telescope, held up by her parents. She points and says, 'Mars.' Mr. and Mrs. Granger stare at each other. More to do than can ever be done May 1983 - Five-year-old twins Fred and George are tearing through the house, a screaming Percy chasing them because they've stolen his Wizarding Boy Scouts badges. Some say eat or be eaten Some say live and let live September 1981 - Harry, laughing, is searching for his parents during a game of hide and go seek. He looks curiously under a table and James yells, 'BOO!' Harry falls over in shock. But all are agreed as they join the stampede You should never take more then you give June 1981 - Hermione, already using a spoon with ease, is eating a bowl of mashed bananas. Hermione holds out a spoonful of the mush to her mother, seeming to inquire, 'You want some?' Mrs. Granger declines the offer. In the circle of life It's the wheel of fortune July 1991 - 'Mum!' yells Ron, clutching an envelope made of thick yellowish parchment, 'I got my acceptance letter from Hogwarts!' Mrs. Weasley gives him a big hug and treats him to a homemade cookie. It's the leap of faith It's the band of hope July 1991 - " 'I'm a what?' gasped Harry." Till we find our place On the path unwinding July 1991 - Mr. Granger comes over to Hermione, who is studying her times tables in preparation for the sixth grade. His eyebrows are knitted together in puzzlement. 'Hermione,' he says, holding out a rather unusual letter, 'this came for you today.' In the circle, the circle of life Some of us fall by the wayside And some of us soar to the stars October 1991 - 'Wingardium Leviosa!' yells Ron. The club flies out of the troll's meaty hand ... it turns in midair ... and falls, cracking onto the head of the monster. And some of us sail through our troubles And some have to live with the scars June 1992 - "At once, a needle-sharp pain seared across Harry's scar; his head felt as though it were about to split in two; he yelled, struggling with all his might, and to his surprise, Quirrell let go of him." There's far too much to take in here More to find than can ever be found April 1994 - Frantically, Hermione is searching for her Arithmancy book. 'Hermione, why don't you just take the night off?' asks Harry. 'Surely it can't hurt to miss one assignment.' She gives him a murderous Look that even Professor McGonagall would have been proud of. 'Uh ... let's keep looking for it,' Harry suggests. But the sun rolling high Through the sapphire sky Keeps great and small on the endless round May 1994 - The golden ball was in his fist, Ron saw through the binoculars - they'd beaten Slytherin! He struggles over the barriers and makes his way over to where Harry is being lifted onto the shoulders of the crowd. Ron beams ... his best friend has won the Cup! In the heat of the moment, when Harry is shaking hands with Dumbledore, Ron gives Hermione a quick peck on the cheek - she blushes furiously. In the circle, the circle of life July 1994 - 'Fourteen years old and he can't see us,' Lily says, wiping her eyes and watching her son sleeping soundly. ' We can't talk to him, or write him a letter ... he doesn't even know we're here. I wish I could just say how much I love him ...' James, suspiciously wet-eyed himself, puts his arm around his wife. 'Harry knows,' he comforts. Together, the two souls observe the sun come up as it streaks the sky with pink and gold.
