Simple Letters By: Ronluver The clock chimed 12 midnight. Harry Potter sighed...it was now his birthday and he was officially fifteen. FIFTEEN! Still, he didn't feel fifteen; he felt more like seven to be honest. He was alone, no one to talk to and it hurt him alot, more then Harry would like to admit. Harry hadn't received anything from his friends all summer, with the exception of a hasty scribbling from Sirius. The Dursley were being more horrible then usual this year, possibly because they were still paying for the repair of their fireplace, or because of Dudley's tongue incident. Whatever it was for, they were being just horrible. Either forgetting to feed him lunch sometimes, or making him do housework all through dinner. Harry had been too exhausted these past months to get little, if any, homework completed. He walked over to his window and looked out...nothing. Sighing he sat down on the bed, lapsing farther into his depression. He was so absorbed in his present thoughts that he failed to notice a small owl swoop silently into his room and land on the bed. Harry decided he should sleep on everything and leaned backwards to lie down, but sat bolt upright as a tiny talon dug into his back. "Ouch! What th- Pig!" There was Pig, Ron's owl lying on Harry's bed looking tired and slightly flattened. Harry scooped up the tiny owl and cradled it in his hands. "Do you have a letter for me from Ron?" The owl lifted a leg and gave a feeble hoot. Harry placed Pig in Hedwig's now empty cage and gave him some water; then he slipped the letter off his leg and sat down to read. He was shocked to find that the handwriting was not large and untidy, but small and neat like a girl's would be. Harry sat puzzled over this for a moment, but decided to read on anyway. Dear Harry, I just wanted to say Happy Birthday to you. Look, I know with everything that's happening you may be a little overwhelmed, so feel free to write me whenever you need to. I hope you can come over later in the summer and get yourself away from those horrible Dursely's. Hermione may come as well, but right now she is in Bulgaria I believe, and won't be back until August 12. So Happy Birthday again Harry and... Sincerely, Ginny Harry mouth dropped open. Ginny? Ginny had written him a letter. Well, that was surprising. Harry decided the only logical thing to do would be to write her back of course. He settled at his desk and positioned his quill to write, but then he hesitated. It suddenly occurred to him that he had never said more then five sentences to Ginny the whole time he had known her, so what could he possibly write to her about? Still, she had written him a whole letter AND for his birthday besides. For some reason this made Harry feel special...really special. More special then when he caught the snitch for the Championship even. Setting his doubts aside he started to write. Ginny, Thanks for the letter. It was just what I needed. I have been really lonely this summer and the Durselys are being more horrible then usual. I think they are still mad, because your Dad blasted apart their fireplace. I thought it looked better broken personally, but they don't seem to share my opinion. Well, I hope I will get to see you guys this summer too, please keep asking! If I can get away from here I will be beyond happy. Thanks again Ginny, and tell Ron I said Hi. Harry Harry didn't know whether he should put From Harry, or even Love Harry, but he decided on a plain Harry, so not to push anything that wasn't even there, and sent it off with a more revitalized Pig. Harry watched him fly off, and then climbed into bed. He smiled slightly and thought that his summer was finally going to be somewhat enjoyable.
